Osteopathic Treatment
The first session (intake) consists of a detailed medical history (consultation) and a physical examination. During a thorough and systematic examination, the mobility of all tissues within the musculoskeletal system, the organ systems, the connective tissue (fascia), the nerves and the blood vessels is assessed.
As all the tissues in our body are interconnected and influence one another, a holistic approach is adopted during treatment. The source of the complaint is often not located where the pain is felt; for this reason, treatment may take place in a different area to where you experience the complaint. The treatment focuses on removing movement restrictions throughout the body. Gentle to mild manual techniques are used to achieve relaxation and optimal blood flow to the tissues, thereby stimulating the body’s self-healing capacity.
The number of treatments required varies from person to person and depends on the nature and severity of the symptoms. At the start of the follow-up treatment, an assessment will first be made to determine exactly what is needed to allow the body to recover as fully as possible.
