My background
My name is Martin van der Aar; I am an osteopath and the owner of ‘Osteopathy van der Aar’.
Training
Like many other osteopaths, I started out as a physiotherapist. I successfully completed my physiotherapy training through an accelerated programme at the private Thim van der Laan training institute. Immediately after obtaining my physiotherapy diploma, I began training as a manual therapist at the Stichting Opleidingen Musculoskeletale Therapie (SOMT), which I completed in 2015. During my treatments, I aim to look at the bigger picture and not just focus on the symptoms; this holistic approach ultimately led me to train as an osteopath. I completed my osteopathy training in 2024 at the International Academy of Osteopathy (IAO) in Ghent, after which I obtained my master’s degree from Buckinghamshire New University.
Experience
My career began in 2012 at a large practice in Almere, where I focused primarily on manual therapy and return-to-work programmes. From 2015, I continued this work at SMC De Bron in Vinkeveen. In the years that followed, I further specialised in dry needling, for which I undertook various courses.
In January 2025, I set up my own osteopathy practice: Osteopathy Van der Aar, with branches in Amstelveen and Maasluis (OsteoGroep). Since 1 July 2025, the practice has expanded to include a third location in Vinkeveen.
Personal
I live with my wife and two children in beautiful Amstelveen, where I love to keep active; I enjoy putting on my running shoes or hopping on my road bike to explore the countryside.
